Ambalapuzha temple (believed to be built in 790 AD) is one of the three important Sri Krishna temples in the state of Kerala. It is known for its temple architecture and also for the sweet milk porridge with its unique flavor (known famously as Ambalapuzha Paal paayasam), which is served daily to devotees. The Ambalapuzha Temple reflects ancient Kerala temple architecture and is a historians delight.
Ambalapuzha temple is also known to be the birth place to 'Ottan Thullal', a classical performing art.
Ambalapuzha Sri Krishna Temple is situated about 16 km from Alappuzha. The yearly Ambalapuzha Aaraattu festival ( Ambalapuzha) is celebrated for for ten days and is attended by devotees from all over the state.
